Dear Medical City Healthcare physicians,

With the final regulatory rule of the 21st Century Cures Act released in March 2020, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is now implementing several provisions of the Act, including information blocking and electronic patient event notifications.

The information blocking provision, which involves the rights of patients to request and receive their electronic health information (EHI), has tiered compliance dates. Beginning May 17, 2021, providers must apply all deadlines of this provision.

The regulatory requirements of the electronic patient event notifications provision compel hospitals to make a reasonable effort to send electronic notifications to all providers, including out-of-network providers, which have an established relationship with the patient. This provision must be applied by May 1, 2021.

Below, you’ll find links to a more thorough overview of the information blocking provision, as well as a provider notification tool.
