Statement regarding ivermectin

September 9, 2021

Medical City Healthcare hospitals rely on licensed physicians and clinicians who use their extensive training and experience to assess patient needs and determine the most appropriate course of treatment. We support our physicians by providing information and resources, including the latest research to help deliver the best possible care to our patients. Nationally, the rapid increase in utilization of ivermectin, including veterinary formulations, for unauthorized indications such as  COVID-19 has led to increased reports of severe illness associated with ivermectin. The FDA has not authorized or approved ivermectin for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19 and has issued a consumer update warning against ivermectin for COVID-19. Outside of current clinical trials, the FDA, CDC and the WHO discourage the use of ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19.
