MUSE in the Medical City Healthcare

The MUSE system consists of a file server that stores the system configuration, patient records, and client computers that run the MUSE application. The MUSE application allows the users of the system to access the file server to perform system functions such as editing, test retrieval, system setup, running database searches, and checking system status.

Each MUSE system is configured, as required, to support the different devices that are sending data into the system and to support the different ways that MUSE needs to send data from the system, for example, to laser printers, fax machines, or an HL7 (Health Level 7) interface. Several different data types are supported by the MUSE system, but the most common are ECG, Stress, and Holter.

The system consists of computers connected together via a network. The file server stores patient tests (ECG, Stress, Holter, HiRes) in a relational database. The tests are acquired from the associated devices for a particular type of study. Depending on the device and the system configuration, tests can be acquired over the wired network, over a combination wireless and wired network, from a secure digital card, over a modem, or via a serial download cable.
